Pain Points in Student’s Life
Hi guys, today I am not here to criticize our education system but talk about some real problems which are faced by our students. Before jump on our article, let’s imagine a scenario where you have the freedom to learn your favorite subject from your favorite teacher at your favorite timeline. And when you complete your subject by doing lots of practice questions, if you want you can go for the exam, and if you fail, you can try it again with improvements. And the best part is there is no fear of failure, you can try it as much as you want with improvements.
With keeping this scenario in mind, let’s talk about some serious issues/Pain points in students life:
1. Proper Mentorship: Most of the time students are confused related to their careers. What to choose? What Course Should I pursue? What subjects should I study? Like In India, most of the students who score good grades have to choose science after school because their parents think there are 3 options Science, Commerce, or Arts. And After 12th, They just go for Engineering even if they don’t want to become an engineer. (Not including those who want their career in engineering). So, Proper Mentorship is required by those who know the world very well.
2. Self-Paced Course: Now this is something I feel missing in our education system. As much I understand our education system, they try to teach you almost everything, so you know a little bit about almost everything and choose what you find interesting.
That’s one thing I appreciate. But they try to teach the subject in their given timeline and we all know that every student has a different speed of learning and grasping the concepts. Few students learn soo quickly and few students took time to grasp that knowledge. Here, our education system fails. So, a Self-Paced Course with one-to-one mentorship should be there in our education system. I think, recorded sessions can help in solving this problem.
3. Student-Teacher Relationship: we generally face this problem in our education system that most of the students are unable to speak up in front of their teacher. They mostly hesitate to speak about their problems or ask for help. And as Online classes grow this student-teacher interaction becomes less visible. A student always needs a mentor. So we need to make sure that there should be time to time and Mostly one-to-one interaction happens between students and teachers. When one teacher guides a student, he always ends up giving him more than he supposes to.
4. Proper Practice: As a Technical trainer and also a student (I always love to be a student), What I found the problem in student’s life is that there is no easy and efficient way to practice their knowledge. You may see this problem in subjects like Maths, Physics or for example Programming Languages. So, students always need as many practice problems as they want and their solution should be right there.
5. Time to Time Self-Paced Exam: Now this is something I found need to fix, most people think that exams should not happen. In my opinion, they should be conducted but they should be based on the student’s pace. Like someone just finishes a module, then you can conduct the exam. Exams are the reflection of student’s knowledge about the subject or particular topic. We need to tell students that if they fail to solve the problem that means you need more practice, it doesn’t mean you fail. So, doing time to time exam on the basis of student’s grasping speed as I mentioned in my second topic should be a great move.
Now, this is the end of my article, Hope you don’t get bored reading this. If you feel something is missing please let me know. I am happy to hear from your side. I try to come with a solution in the next article. Thank you
